Peptide
A chain of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. Shorter than proteins, typically 2–50 amino acids. Research peptides are synthetic versions of naturally occurring or modified peptide sequences.
HPLC
High-Performance Liquid Chromatography. The gold standard analytical method for verifying peptide purity by separating compounds based on their molecular interactions with a stationary phase.
COA (Certificate of Analysis)
Laboratory documentation confirming the identity and purity of a compound. Includes HPLC purity percentage and mass spectrometry data. Issued per batch.
Lyophilisation
Freeze-drying process used to preserve peptides in powder form for maximum shelf life and stability during shipping and storage.
Reconstitution
The process of dissolving lyophilised peptide powder in an appropriate solvent (typically bacteriostatic water) to create a research solution of known concentration.
Bacteriostatic Water
Water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol. Used for reconstituting peptides in research. The benzyl alcohol inhibits microbial growth in the reconstituted solution.
Half-Life
The time required for the concentration of a compound to reduce by 50% in a given system. Important parameter in pharmacokinetic research.
Receptor Agonist
A compound that binds to a receptor and activates it, producing a biological response. Many research peptides act as receptor agonists.
GH Secretagogue
A compound that stimulates growth hormone secretion from the pituitary gland. Includes GHRH analogues, GHRP compounds and ghrelin mimetics.
GLP-1 Receptor Agonist
A compound that activates the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor. Research focus includes metabolic regulation and appetite signalling.
SARM
Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator. Compounds studied for tissue-selective androgen receptor activation in muscle and bone research.
Bioregulator
Short peptides (typically 2–4 amino acids) studied for their regulatory effects on specific organ systems. Originated from research by Prof. Khavinson.
In Vitro
Research conducted outside a living organism, typically in cell cultures or test tubes. All UK Peptides compounds are for in vitro research use only.
Angiogenesis
The formation of new blood vessels. A research area of interest for several repair peptides including BPC-157 and GHK-Cu.
